Adapting your Insanity

To conclude the conversation I had with Justyn and Jeff earlier: A microSD card could be adapted into miniSD card form. The miniSD assembly could then be adapted into SD card form. The SD card could then be adapted into Compact Flash form. The Compact Flash card can then be plugged into a adapter to make it compatible with floppy disk drives.

Once the assembly is complete:

  1. You have no money
  2. You have to find a machine with a floppy disk drive, unless you purchase a USB floppy drive.

Next step I suppose would be to get lots of USB floppy drives, each with a microSD card in it, and RAID them.

Kudos to the first person to find a floppy disk-to-something adapter.

Ahhh! My dream has been smashed! I misread the floppy adapter page. The search is back on for a CF-to-floppy adapter (or CF-to-something adapter).

Jeff suggests that a CF-to-PCMCIA adapter should be the final stage. I think that reduces the insanity factor too much.

A user testimonial for the FlashPath from http://www.dcresource.com/FlashPath/

“In my experience, transferring the files using the FlashPath adapter was about twice as fast as using the serial cable with my D-600L at 115Kbps, although your results may be different.”

Which means, with a 2Gb card, you’d get a download speed of just under one day!

That’s a surprisingly small amount of time! It’s still actually do-able. It’s when it takes longer than the age of the universe is when we have to dance.
